Peacock Feather Pin with Makin’s Clay®

Feather Pin

One thing I love about Makin’s Clay® is how strong it is when it has dried, so I thought a good use for it would be a pin or brooch, since they get a lot of abuse! This one was very simple to make, I pressed some Makin’s Clay® into one of the new feather molds, available at Micheals Craft Store. I used scissors to remove the excess clay rather than cutting the excess with a clay blade as I find it easier to trim up that way. Next I added some metallic pastes in violet, red, blue, green and gold for highlights. Lastly I glued a teal coloured crystal in the eye portion of the peacock feather. I left the clay to dry for a couple of days since it was quite thick, then varnished it with Americana DuraClear High Gloss for that glass-like finish. I glued a pin-back with superglue. I want to make another one someday, using a small glass cabochon with an acrylic paint pour skin for the eye of the feather.
